Supporting Small Businesses
As a small business owner myself, one of my go-to places to shop for holiday gifts for friends and family is Etsy. You can find all kinds of amazing gifts for the people on your gift list. In fact, I created a collection of cool gifts to inspire you as you shop–you can check it out HERE.
Journals & Pens
Entrepreneurs tend to have lots of ideas. That means having a great journal to write down inspiration is a must. One of my favorites is the Moleskine brand. They come in hardcover or softcover, a variety of colors, and with lined pages, dotted pages, or blank pages.
Everyone knows that a great journal requires an awesome pen. While some people love using a fancy pen they can refill, others love sets with a variety of colors so they can color-code their ideas. For the fancy pen lover on your list, the Parker-Jotter Fountain Pen is a great choice, and for the color-loving people on your list, Papermate Flair pens make a fun gift.
Have you ever noticed that you often get great ideas in the shower? Well, now there’s a solution for capturing those thoughts: a waterproof notepad. And let’s not forget that a journal hardly feels complete without stickers, like these from the My Happy Place Etsy shop.
Things to Read
Most business owners love to learn, which means that books are a great gift option. One of the best books I’ve read about being an entrepreneur is Work Energy: Finish What You Start and Fearlessly Take on Any Goal. I’m also a big fan of Mike Michalowicz’s book Clockwork and the book Traction to help business owners automate and scale their businesses.
Because not everyone has time to sit down and read, an Audible subscription also makes a great gift. So far this year I have read over 40 books through audio. My favorite way to listen to books is with my Bluetooth earbuds while I’m doing the dishes, or folding laundry. Audiobooks make everything better!
Flexibility is one of the great parts of owning your own business. If your business is primarily online, you might be location-independent and able to work from almost anywhere. If you have a friend or family member who likes to move around to different workspaces, a computer-friendly backpack is a great gift option.
However, not all business owners like to work in airport terminals and coffee shops. Sometimes they prefer a quiet space with a desk or a table. But all that sitting isn’t good. For those who prefer a more traditional desk, an adjustable standing desk or a standing desk converter are great options.
Gadgets are also popular holiday gift items. Basic tools like a portable phone charger or a flexible camera/phone stand are popular items. This way your business friends have what they need, even on the go.
Something to Say
If you’re looking for gift ideas for a podcaster or new Youtuber, a quality microphone is a great option. The Yeti mic is popular with more advanced podcasters, and the Snowball mic is a great budget option.
For the writer on your list, a subscription to transcription software like Rev can be a huge time saver. No more typing out ideas. Instead, an entrepreneur can speak his or her ideas, and the software creates the transcript. This is especially useful for business owners who can’t type fast but still want to write books.
Creating a Comfortable Workspace
Office supplies may not be the most glamorous holiday gift, but they’re a solid choice. A business portfolio notebook helps make entrepreneurs look more polished. In addition, a large whiteboard in the office provides a business owner with space to brainstorm and plan. And let’s not forget sticky notes!
If you’re looking for a gift for someone who spends a lot of time in front of a screen, they would probably appreciate a pair of blue light-blocking glasses. These glasses help reduce eye strain and minimize the impact of blue light on sleep patterns.
Personalize Your Business
Items that help make a workspace feel more cozy and personal are great gifts. Things like a candle in a seasonal scent, a mug with a fun or witty message, or a blanket to stay warm during winter are great choices.
Most small business owners have to fulfill a variety of roles in their business, so gifts that make marketing more streamlined are welcome. A graphics pack from Creative Market could help them efficiently create marketing materials that are on-brand. If you don’t know the specifics of their brand, you could always give credits to Creative Market.
Giving Convenience & Focus
Finally, if you’re looking for experience gifts, the gift of quiet can be helpful for a business owner who wants to work on goal planning. This could be an offer of childcare or gifting a weekend getaway.
