Are Coaching Fees a Business Expense?

 December 29, 2021

Great question from Courtney at Charity Sparrow.

I have a business coach I pay monthly. Is this a tax-deductible business expense?

Good question! Business coach expenses are similar to those for courses, conferences, books, and other business training. They are all resources to teach and train, helping you to grow your business and grow as a business owner. To be fully tax-deductible, your coach must solely advise you on matters of business. If however, your coach is a life coach, a coach that advises you on both business and personal matters, only the business portion of their fee would be tax deductible. As always, use your judgment when determining if your unique scenario qualifies as a tax deduction. Need some more tax advice for your small business? Grab one of my tax books below, for FREE!
