Grow Your Business with Audiobooks

 April 4, 2018

I really love audiobooks. They allow me to use my time wisely during mundane but necessary tasks. Learning how to grow my business with audiobooks is such a perk! What else allows you to understand sales funnels while scrubbing toilets?! I can learn the latest marketing techniques while simmering soup! And I must admit, I listen to a lot of fiction with audiobooks because sometimes you just need a little fun!

Why audiobooks for business?

Besides engaging my mind while doing mindless tasks, audiobooks give me in-depth insight into ways to grow and manage my business. Podcasts are helpful for this too, and I listen to a lot of podcasts as well, but audiobooks go one step further. A podcast is 45 minutes on a business topic. Audiobooks are several hours on one business topic. Audiobooks can dig really deep into a topic, in a way that podcasts just can’t do.

What service do you use?

I use Audible. Audible has a huge selection plus their app is super simple to use. Sometimes you can even link up your eBook with your audiobook so you can go back and forth between reading and listening. This is called Whispersync for voice.

How much does it cost?

Audible is $14.95 a month which gets you one book credit, good for any book. However, right now you can get two free books to get you started!

Some books on Audible are less than a $14.95 credit, so you can just buy them instead of using a credit. Plus, Audible has daily deals with audiobooks usually priced between $1.95 and $3.95. I grab quite a few of those as they come up. This helps keep the price of audiobooks down.

When and where do you listen to audiobooks?

Short answer, all the time and everywhere! But here are some real-life scenarios:

  • While cleaning bathrooms (anything to take my mind off of wiping toilets)
  • Folding laundry (with 6 loads a week this provides lots of listening time)
  • Taking a walk to get my daily step count in
  • While my kids are at their sports practice
  • Cooking dinner
  • Unloading the dishwasher
  • Housecleaning in general
  • In the car running errands
  • While packaging my Etsy orders
  • During any mundane, mental thinking not required task

I probably get through one audiobook every other week. That means 26 books I read during the year just by listening. I read real books too, but audiobooks really push up my number of books consumed.

Why yes, I’m so glad you asked.
